Castle
The sovereign Self in its fortified form.

The castle is the Self fortified. European folk tradition is full of enchanted castles — some guarded, some abandoned, some moving. Teresa of Ávila’s Interior Castle maps the soul as a castle of many rooms, with the deepest room the seat of the divine. Jungian analysis reads castle-dreams as the psyche’s architecture of its own sovereignty. A ruined castle marks a defense no longer needed; an unfinished castle, a self still being built.
